Apparently Austin Wintory thinks holding hostage...

No joke, he told me this today when I talked to him at the Smithsonian. He’s an amusing fellow. xD
What a meanie.

Quick-Review: Valkyria Chronicles II
Oooh Sega, why must you fail at marketing great games in North America?
Valkyria Chronicles II takes place 2 years after the events of the first game. House Gassenarl is unhappy with the “impurity” of Gallia and sets out on a rebellious ethnic cleansing campaign. But because the Gallian Army lies in tattered shambles, no one can stop them… Except a bunch of high school...

FOR GALLIA
Thsooooo. Valkyria Chronicles II dropped today, and I, in my 5-hour-no-point-in-going-home-because-as-soon-as-I-get-home-I’ll-have-to-go-back break from classes, trekked down to my favorite GameStop and snatched it right up.
Probably won’t be able to power through it since I have such an intense course load, but I will play it and get a partial and full review up ASAP.
Though, I...

LenovoPuppy: Initial Impressions
Meet LenovoPuppy, my new 14” Lenovo Ideapad Y460. I’ve only used it an hour or two, but I’m pretty happy about it.
Specs: CPU: Intel Core i5-520M GPU: ATI Radeon HD 5650 1GB and integrated graphics (switchable) HDD: 500GB 5400rpm RAM: 4 GB DDR3
Like: - touch sensitive volume buttons - touch sensitive quick-launch slider - much lighter than my 15.4” Sony VAIO -...

Tekken (2010 film) Tiny Review
Overall, it was a fun movie if you don’t take it seriously….and if you know absolutely NOTHING about the Tekken game series. Good for a rent at the local RedBox…or free to watch somewhere online.
Pros: - Lotsa short, sweet fight sequences that really know how to make you wince. (it’s no Jet Li wushu film, but it’s still good) - Pacing was really smooth for a...

VGs and the Law
I shouldn’t care that California wants to prohibit the sale/rental of “violent” (not necessarily M-rated) video games to minors, and I shouldn’t care if the Supreme Court rules in favor of California’s law. I’m not a minor.
But, for some reason I do care. I think I’m afraid games will no longer be protected under the First Amendment if they do stand with...
Incendiary Opinion
Video games aren’t art.
Just because artists pour blood, sweat, tears into the design of a character or environment, does not mean that the finished product is art. I liked the way some guy on Youtube put it. ‘Roundabouts, he said that a lot of artists worked hard to put Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen together, and that turned out to be complete, and utter shit.
Though the best...

Hulu+ and PS+
I think the Hulu+ preview is going live for PS+ users soon.
Great! Another reason to subscribe to PS+, right? Noo. Not really. :/ PS+ users only get the preview. If you want Hulu on your PS3, all users have to pay $9.99/month when it really goes live.
I think Sony made a mistake with this. People are hesitant to get PS+. Why not add Hulu+ to the benefits of a Plus user? They’d get a lot...

Are All Games Worth the Same?
That is…is a first/third person shooter with an 8-12 hour single player campaign worth the same as an RPG with a 70+ hour single player campaign?
Is a purely online game worth the same as a game with offline AND online play?
Is a linear game that constantly pushes the player forward equal to an open-world game where a player can progress through the story as he/she pleases?
Or is a DVD...

Quick-Review: MGS: Peace Walker
This is not only the epitome of the MGS series, it’s the epitome of PSP gaming.
It’s 1974. Snake has started Militaires Sans Frontieres. An army without a country. An “Army Without Borders”. Snake is asked to fight a group called the “Peace Sentinels”. Apparently, they’ve developed the perfect deterrent: an AI-controlled walking battle tank equipped...

Quick-Review: The Saboteur
Pandemic’s swan song is a blast(no pun intended). I was hesitant to buy this game at full price when it came out in December, because the bigwig critics weren’t too impressed. So, I decided to wait until the price fell a bit.
The story follows Sean Devlin as he’s cheated out of victory in a race, loses his best friend, and embarks on a quest for revenge in Nazi-occupied France...
Game Dev'ing 101
Honestly, I think for the benefit of everybody…I believe that this license needs a breather. You can’t plough a field every year. Once every three years – or once every something – you have to let it breathe. You have to let the minerals back in. I think it’s the same thing with any license, really.
Said by Jean-Francois Boivin from Ubisoft Montreal with regard to the next...

On Trophies
I want to be able to delete games from my Trophy collection. It’s all cluttered with 0-10% collections. Only maybe a third of the games I’ve played have appreciable numbers to display.
No. I’m not a Trophy Whore. I could care less about my Trophy Level (although those shiny Platinum trophies give your level a real nice boost). If I were a Trophy Whore, I wouldn’t want to...

Epiphany
The last time I had one like this, I didn’t sleep all night. It was Easter Weekend of ‘09. Well it wasn’t an epiphany. I knew things were that way…but it never hit me. When it did, I ran to my PS3 and my pitiful PS3 collection of 2 games for comfort. I played through MGS4 twice that night (on different difficulties). Since then, I’ve accepted that things are that...
